The Stolen Shore is an audio epic, loosely based on the Divine Comedy, about a pirate who reads Storybooks to children. That's al he really knows about himself--that, and apparently he's some kind of alcoholic. A refugee character from a cancelled kids' show, the good-hearted but much misguided Pirate "Blee" avoids his own oblivion by sailing on a cardboard ship into the wilderness of the Erstwhile Sea. With the help of the ship's only other passenger, a talking Stowaway Sloth, Pirate Blee keeps in touch with the children of the human world via radio, answering their letters, and guiding them toward books much better than the insubstantial "young adult" books their parents and teachers give to them. But when the real-world network on which he once appeared decides to revive the old, shoddily conceived, mostly generic children's program he came from, he becomes aware of the secret which unites all the woefully one-dimensional characters he's met in his travels. He's beginning to remember why he left, and what he really was--the consequences of his actions after that could alteration of the mortal world, beyond the point of no return, into a far richer and stranger place.  But since he's being hounded by all the monsters from the world's forgotten tales, he's tempted just to let them have it. Then, from another world, one just next door, he finally gets the offer he almost can't refuse.
